SKI-WHAT? Skijor and skijoring are terms that are increasingly making their way into the public domain. In fact, “skijoring” was the word of the day on dictionary.com only a few months ago! The sport is trending on social media, and the opportunities to get involved increase yearly. If you are a horse lover, and you don’t know what SKIJOR is, it is time you explored this fascinating sport! Skijoring originated in Scandinavian countries which explains how the term itself came about. Take “ski”, from skíð which means "cleft wood”, "stick of wood" or “ski" and “jor”, which is loosely translated to “driving” or “being driven forward”. Combine them, and you get “driven forward on skis”, but people still have trouble forming a “visual” and this has merit because skijoring is multifaceted and can be practiced in many ways.
