Black Jockey In Earliest Known Motion Picture - 2023 Black Boots Awards Spotlight

✨ In 1872, English photographer Eadweard Muybridge started experimenting with photographing movement. He wanted to explore whether, at any point in a horse’s stride, all four feet simultaneously left the ground. Muybridge created a series of photographs called, “The Horse in Motion," published in 1878. ✨ Later, he created a series of works on animal locomotion called, "Plate Number 626," featuring an unnamed Black jockey riding a thoroughbred mare named Annie. ✨ In 1880, Muybridge started projecting moving painted versions of his recordings with his zoopraxiscope. This was the earliest known motion picture exhibition based on actual recordings of motion.
