Read this before you judge …. This is what trauma actually does to a body. It’s not a memory; it’s a biological reality. It’s a nervous system rewired for survival, fighting battles no one can see. They didn’t choose this. Their nervous system did. It chose to carry the weight of these statistics—and it chose to keep going. The Weight of Trauma: By the Numbers MENTAL & PHYSICAL HEALTH ▪️ Addiction: 75% of people with a substance use disorder have a history of trauma. [2] ▪️ Suicide: Childhood trauma can increase the risk of suicide attempts by up to 89%. [3] ▪️ Depression: It can increase the likelihood of chronic depression by 78%. [3] ▪️ Eating Disorders: Individuals with eating disorders have trauma rates as high as 74-100% in major national studies. [4] ▪️ Chronic Pain: Up to 80% of patients with severe PTSD also suffer from chronic pain. [5] ▪️ Lifespan: Experiencing 6 or more ACEs can shorten a person’s lifespan by 20 years. [1]LIFE OUTCOMES ▪️ Incarceration: 98% of the U.S. prison population has at least one Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE). [1] ▪️ Homelessness: 91% of people experiencing homelessness have a history of at least one traumatic event. [6] ▪️ Job Instability: Survivors of trauma are more likely to experience serious job-related problems and income loss. [7] When you see someone who is struggling, remember these numbers. They are not a measure of fragility. They are the measure of the mountain they are climbing every single day.The fact that they are still here, still breathing, still fighting? That doesn’t make them weak. It makes them a warrior. And I’m so happy you are here ❤️ Peace & Love Melissa 🥰🎥 @melissajeanpt #traumasurvivor #healing #trauma #cptsd #horses #therapy #equinetherapy #animals #addiction #healer #horsepower Sources: [1]: "Compassion Prison Project" [2]: ”"National Governors Association (NGA)" [3]: ”Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)" [4]: National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA)" [5]: "Cleveland clinic / Pain Management Journal" [6]: "Blanchet House / University of Ottawa Study" [7]: "FreeFrom / Survivors at Work Report”
