The “5x larger electromagnetic field” claim is everywhere in the equine therapy world. I’ll be honest — I believed it too. So much of what I’m writing in these Paddock Research Notes is me revisiting things I once held as true. It’s not always fun to sit with that. But in this case? The truth is so much more magical than the myth. I went looking for the peer-reviewed study behind the claim. It doesn’t exist. What does exist is something more demanding — and more beautiful. Real, measurable physiological coupling between humans and horses. Heart rhythms that respond to one another. Nervous systems in conversation. We don’t need myths to validate this work. The biology is already extraordinary. And there’s a welfare piece I keep coming back to: when we believe the horse is just broadcasting calm into us, we stop paying attention to what we’re bringing into the paddock. In most of the spaces we share with horses — under saddle, in cross ties, in session — they can’t simply walk away. And even when they can, their body has already registered what we brought in. The honest science isn’t a lesser story. It’s a more demanding one. And the horses deserve those who know the difference. 📎 Comment “notes” and I’ll DM you Paddock Research Note No. 3 — the full breakdown with citations.
