Three days. One trail. Nothing but desert in between. Sheikh ran loose beside us as we set out, completely at home in the desert. Then the quiet stretch: walking through a narrow canyon, camels crossing our path, lunch in the shade of a mountain. By afternoon, the horses drank at an old Bedouin dam, still used by the herders.
