Horses need the dentist too! 🦷🐴 Today it was Tempestina's turn to have her teeth filed, a crucial checkup for her well-being. Horses' teeth grow and wear down continuously, but not always evenly. Sharp points can form, causing pain, small wounds in the mouth, and difficulty chewing. In some cases, the horse may lose weight, drop food, or show discomfort when wearing a halter. Tempestina's cheek was swollen; the cause wasn't an abscess, but a dental problem. The sharp points that had formed were affecting her chewing and had caused inflammation of the salivary duct, causing her cheek to swell. During the visit, the vet filed her teeth and also removed the food that had become lodged between her teeth and gums due to her improper chewing. The result? Already after the filing, her cheek had gone down, and Tempestina was able to chew much better again. ❤️ This is why dental checkups are so important: they don't just fix the teeth, but also prevent pain, inflammation, and many small problems that often go unnoticed. Caring for a horse means addressing these issues too, even when they seem fine. With light sedation and the right tools, the vet eliminates these irregularities, making chewing more comfortable and preventing future problems. Tempestina did a great job and will now be able to eat even more peacefully again. ❤️ Did you expect horses to need the dentist too? 😊 Thank you!@elisalapp🙏🏻❤️ 🥰🎥 @elesalvucci #tempestinaminipony #minipony #dentist #pony #cavallo
