You and your horse's heart rates aren't just close when you're near each other. They're talking. I used to think that was just a nice way of putting it , a metaphor for connection, not an actual mechanism. It isn't. It's measurable, physiological coupling. Heart rate variability studies have shown it moves both directions between horses and humans, in real time. Horses do this with each other constantly, you can watch it happen in something as ordinary as mutual grooming. Two nervous systems finding one rhythm, without a word passing between them. It's not unique to us. We're just able to notice it, and borrow it. That's the whole premise of co-regulation, and it's the foundation everything else in my work is built on. Want the research behind it? Comment NOTES and I'll send you the free research note, the actual studies, not just the claim. And if this kind of thing is useful to you, 🔖 follow along — this is the science I dig into every week, not just the headline version.
