Warm-Up 101: Tips & Tricks learned warming up for 1.20M-1.40M+ 🐎 The warm-up’s primary purpose is to allow riders to physically and mentally prepare their horses: loosening muscles, practicing movements, and jumping practice fences, so they enter the main show ring calm, focused, and ready to perform safely. Key Purposes of a Warm-Up Ring Muscle and Physical Preparation: Riders use flatwork or light trotting and cantering to stretch the horse’s muscles, increase blood flow, and loosen any stiffness. Mental Focus: It helps settle a nervous or energetic horse in a busy environment, building confidence before the judged performance. Task Practice: Competitors can pop over a few practice jumps or rehearse specific dressage transitions at their actual competition height. Standard Etiquette and Guidelines Go with the Flow: Ride in the same direction as the majority of the other horses, usually passing left-shoulder to left-shoulder when going opposite ways. Yield Right of Way: Jumper and faster-moving horses generally have priority on specific tracks, while walkers should stay off the outside rail. Communicate: Loudly announce your intentions when approaching a practice fence (e.g., “heads up for the oxer”) to prevent mix-ups. Be Concise: Limit your time in the ring so that others competing soon have adequate space to prepare, and avoid rigorous repetition as this can negatively affect a horse’s stamina, willingness, and soundness. 🥰🎥 @elpida_equestrian #elpidaequestrian #warmup #showjumping #horses #fyp
