Do you know the difference of when you should be stretching your horse vs. strengthening? Oftentimes, I see patients focused on stretching. They have been performing stretches for a long period of time and are not seeing the results they want. The issue is that they have prioritized stretching but failed to realize that it was a compensatory movement pattern causing the issue. Instead, they needed to shift their focus to strengthening. Stretching focuses on improving flexibility, elasticity, and mobility by lengthening the muscles being targeted. This type of exercise involves slow, controlled movements that position the body comfortably in order to elongate specific muscle groups. Strengthening exercises involve performing physical movements to induce muscle contractions. These exercises work to induce muscle fatigue to enhance muscle strength, enabling the horse to perform physical tasks more effectively. Reducing the risk of injury, promoting overall health, and improving performance.
