Does your horse struggle to bring their hind end underneath themselves? If so, try this stretch! This stretch allows for flexion of the lumbosacral joint, SI joint, and coxofemoral (hip) joint. It targets key muscles: middle gluteal, hamstrings (semitendinosus, semimembranosus, biceps femoris), and gluteal-femoral. It is also a great mobilization to glide the sciatic nerve to reduce any fascial restrictions. Benefits: Ideal for horses with hind limb restrictions and fibrotic myopathy. Encourages hind end engagement. Mobilizes sciatic nerve. Stretches the muscles responsible for hind end extension. This stretch can be difficult for the horse to perform. Be sure to go slow and ease into the movement according to the horse's tolerance! For best results, perform this stretch after your horse is thoroughly warmed up.
