Safety—or rather, the lack of it—is indeed central to understanding trauma. Trauma typically occurs when an individual feels profoundly unsafe and powerless in the face of a threat. This can be a physical threat, emotional abuse, an accident, a natural disaster, or any situation where an individual’s wellbeing is at risk and they are unable to escape or effectively respond. In my upcoming webinar on trauma-informed physical therapy, we delve into how this sense of insecurity can manifest both psychologically and physically, affecting the musculoskeletal system— a primary area of concern for physical therapists. Physical therapists, with their extensive training in body mechanics, are exceptionally equipped to address these musculoskeletal manifestations. By understanding how trauma impacts physical health, therapists can identify and treat conditions that may not only be physically disabling but also intertwined with traumatic experiences. I hope you join me tomorrow for the Live recording 11:00-1:00 EST @summitprofessionaleducation And if you can’t make it, I’ll be sure to let you know when the recording comes live ❤️ Peace & Love Melissa 🥰🎥 @melissajeanpt #physicaltherapy #physicaltherapist #traumainformed #selfhealers #traumarecovery #traumainformedphysicaltherapy
