DESCRIPTION
Most of James Peters' life has been spent chasing his next high. Peters began taking and selling meth at only 21 in his hometown of London, Ky. Years later, Peters was charged with manslaughter after a car chase with police ended in the death of his passenger.
Part of Peters' time behind bars was at Blackburn Correctional Facility in Lexington, Ky. where he participated in the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation's 'Second Chances' Program. While there, Peters reconnected to one of his greatest passions: horses.
This project was created and produced by Corrie McCroskey for JOU 498: Multimedia Storytelling, a capstone course for journalism students at the University of Kentucky taught by Professor David Stephenson. Corrie graduated in May of 2022 with a bachelor's degree in journalism, and currently works full time for BloodHorse in Lexington, Ky. as an assistant editor and photographer.
